CAMPH Report

The program is so great, and the experience of the 14 days are amazing and unforgettable. I would really like to share my experience in these days.

The theme of 2017 CAMPH workshop is Global Public Health Development Strategy in Aging Society. As China is gradually entering aging society, I do think the development strategy under global perspective is so important, which give us guidance on further policy making and health promotion. In these 14 days, we spent most of our time taking courses about medical laws and ethical settlement. The courses that interest me most were the comparison of medical laws in different country, ethical problems in future and the shifting from MDGs to SDGs. There were complex and comprehensive medical law system to protect doctors and patients, as well as thoughtful arrangement for consulting. The visit towards KOIHA was really impressive. The ways of solving medical disputes in Korea and China is different. Although we all have similar law systems in this area, but before all law procedures, Korea has a serious consult for patients and doctors, and those public health workers who are medical law majored are in charge of this kind of issue. In my opinion, this arrangement is really considerate, and it can help lawyer, patient and doctor all to understand the problem better and bring more opportunities to solve problem. Ethical problem was another topic we often discussed. Technology changes our life, and it brings more possibilities in medical areas. Gene trials and AI treatments has so many benefits compared with old detective method or artificial treatment. However, it also brings many interesting ethical problems. When we were taking class, the teacher asked us questions like “Are you agree to give your gene for experiment”, “Do you agree to give participants their ownership in a gene experiment” or “How should we treat an AI doctor and the AI doctor’s patients”. Those are questions we barely never thought about before, but when we saw different people holding different opinion on these problems and seemed to be really reasonable, we started to doubt whether we should support it or disapprove it. The course showed us a wide view of future which is full of possible, on the other hand, has many potential problems as well. Although we can’t answer these question now, but I think it is our generation’s duty to answer these questions. The most impressive activity is APACPH conference. It was an unforgettable experience. I felt so lucky to attend Ban Ki-moom’s speech. I liked his speech so much, and what I’m so agreed with him is that as a public health worker, we should always care about what happen in this whole world. Nowadays countries are so connected, one countries’ issue is not only its problem, it is every countries’ issue, and we should all get together to solve it. In the end of his speech, he also said, “As I have told many students of public health, students should have global vision, and engage in understanding and participating”. It’s short and simple, but it means a lot. Most of speech in APACPH conference is related to MDGs and SDGs. We are in the trans period from MDGs to SDGs. In this conference, many professors claimed their opinions about how to face unfinished goals and new-settled goals. I think all of us agree that health has a central place as a major contributor and beneficiary of sustainable policies. We public health workers ought to create healthier societies and promoting wellbeing for everyone worldwide.

Beside all these courses we have taken, we visited many interesting places and eat a lot of delicious local food. So this workshop is also a culture communication. We have students from 3 countries: China, Japan and Korea. We were so amazing about how good we got along with each other. We visited DMZ, Heyri Art Village, Soul Tower, Sungnyemun and Gyeongbokgung Palace in Soul; we visited Taejongdae Park，Haeundae, Gamcheon Culture Village in Busan. We saw the incredible combination of ancient time and modern time; we tasted delicious local food and various kinds of non-Korean food. It’s a great time to meet so many friends. We felt so grateful for our Korean teachers’ thoughtful arrangement. All the precise, modest, friendly characters are what we should always learn and keep.
How time flies. It’s hard to say good-bye. If other students want to take a deep visit to Korea and learn some useful knowledge from experience of different countries, this workshop is of the top of my recommendation.

My major is health education and health promotion. From this workshop, I find that there are some areas we ignored should be paid more attention on. There are many projects about inventions on health habits, but through all the visit of different medical departments, I think we should pay more attention on health status of medical workers and education of medical laws for citizens. Compared with medical workers in Korea, I think somehow medical workers in China bare more pressure from work, and how to ensure a healthy working environment and a comprehensive legal protection for them is essential. The visit towards different medical department in Korea gave us some good examples, although we have different situation of nation, different ways of solving same problem in different countries are good hints for us.

There were communications between different countries, and it was really interesting when different culture exchanged. Therefore, the second thing I have learnt is that open your mind and communicate more. Communication is so important, and it seems to be the only way to break misunderstanding and lead us to new cooperation. I’m really happy to meet friends from different countries, and I have learnt different culture of Japan and Korea. We exchanged our opinions, which let us understand more and gave us inspirations for further studies.

The most important thing l had learnt is global vision. All the classes we took and all the conferences we attended showed us countries are so connected, and it is every country’s duty to share good experience and solve problem together. When we think and talk, global concern should always be in mind.
